Arabic AI Search: Why Reviews Now Decide Which Businesses ChatGPT and Google Recommend

More of our clients' customers now ask ChatGPT in Arabic before they ever open Google. When they do, one signal keeps deciding which businesses get named: reviews.

Quick answer

When someone asks ChatGPT or Google AI Mode in Arabic for a business, the answer names a few businesses it trusts. Across our client work, the clearest pattern is reviews: businesses with more genuine reviews, on a complete and claimed profile, are named far more often. Arabic pages and Arabic reviews help you appear in Arabic answers.

Your customers are asking AI in Arabic

Something has changed in how people in Jordan and the Gulf look for a business. In our work with clients, we see more and more of their customers ask ChatGPT, in Arabic, questions like "what is the best clinic in Amman" or "where do I buy perfume online in Jordan". They don't scroll ten blue links. They read one answer, and that answer names only a handful of businesses.

Google is moving the same way. AI Mode, Google's conversational search, has worked in Arabic since October 2025. So the question is no longer only "do we rank on Google?" but also "when someone asks an AI assistant in Arabic, are we one of the businesses it names?"

If you are new to this, start with our guide to Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) in Jordan. This article focuses on the signal we see making the biggest difference: reviews.

How ChatGPT and Google AI Mode decide whom to name

AI assistants don't pick businesses at random. To answer a question, they search the web, often splitting one question into several smaller searches. Google calls this "query fan-out". They read what they find, then name the businesses that look the most trustworthy and the most relevant to the question.

"Trustworthy" is where reviews come in. An assistant cannot visit your shop or call your clinic. What it can read is what other people say about you, in public, in volume. A business with hundreds of genuine reviews is a safe name to give. A business with eight reviews is a risk, however good it really is.

Why reviews carry so much weight

Across our client accounts, reviews are the clearest pattern we see in who gets named in AI answers. Businesses with many genuine, recent reviews show up again and again. Strong businesses with few reviews are often missing, even when their website and their service are better.

Public research points the same way. A study of 10,000 local businesses in the United States, published by Insites in August 2026, found that businesses recommended by both ChatGPT and Perplexity had on average about 133 reviews, against about 11 for businesses recommended by neither. In that study, the number of reviews mattered much more than the star rating. It is a correlation, and the data is from the US, but it matches what we see in Jordan and the Gulf.

SignalWhat AI assistants seem to read from it
Number of reviewsHow many real people have used and talked about the business
Recent reviewsWhether the business is active today, not five years ago
Claimed and complete profileWhether the business is real, open, and where it says it is
PhotosProof of a real place, real products, real work
Replies from the ownerWhether the business listens to its customers

The same study found that recommended businesses were far more likely to have a claimed listing, a complete profile and photos. These are basics, but many businesses in Amman still haven't done them.

Why Arabic matters, in your pages and in your reviews

When the question is in Arabic, the assistant looks for Arabic information it can trust. A business whose website is English-only, and whose reviews are all in English, gives it little to work with. A business with clear Arabic pages, and reviews that describe the service in Arabic, gives it exactly what it needs.

That doesn't mean dropping English. Most of our clients serve both languages. It means your Arabic pages need to answer real questions in good Arabic, not a quick translation. We explain how in Arabic GEO optimization.

Where your reviews need to be

  • Google Business Profile. The base for Google, Google Maps and Google AI Mode. Claim it, complete every field, add photos, and keep the reviews coming.
  • Facebook. Still where many customers in Jordan leave a recommendation, and a public source AI assistants can read.
  • The platforms of your industry. Booking platforms for clinics, delivery apps for restaurants, directories for agencies and B2B services. If your customers use them, AI assistants read them too.
Keep your business name, address and phone number exactly the same everywhere. If one platform says one thing and another says something else, an AI assistant can't be sure which business is which.

How to get more genuine reviews

  1. Ask at the right moment. Right after a good experience: the end of a successful visit, the day the order arrives, the week the project goes live.
  2. Make it one tap. Send your direct review link on WhatsApp, or put a QR code at the counter and on the invoice.
  3. Let customers write in their language. Arabic reviews help you in Arabic answers, so make it easy for customers who prefer Arabic.
  4. Reply to every review. Thank the good ones, answer the bad ones calmly, in the reviewer's language.
  5. Never buy or fake reviews. It breaks Google's rules, it can get your profile restricted, and it destroys the trust you are trying to build.

Reviews are the start, not the whole job

Reviews tell an AI assistant that you are trustworthy. It still needs to understand what you do, where, and for whom. That comes from your website: clear service pages in Arabic and English, answers to the questions customers really ask, structured data, and a site that AI crawlers are allowed to read.

Frequently asked questions

Do reviews really affect whether ChatGPT recommends my business?

In our client work, reviews are the clearest pattern in which businesses get named. A 2026 study of 10,000 US local businesses found the same: businesses recommended by ChatGPT and Perplexity had far more reviews than those that weren't. It shows a strong link, not a guarantee.

Is the number of reviews more important than the rating?

In the research we have seen, yes. A business with many genuine reviews and a good rating tends to be named more often than one with a perfect rating from a handful of reviews.

Do Arabic reviews help me appear in Arabic AI answers?

They help AI assistants find Arabic information about your business, which matters when the question is asked in Arabic. Combine them with clear Arabic pages on your website.

Can I buy reviews to speed this up?

No. Fake or paid reviews break Google's policies, can get your profile restricted, and damage the trust that makes reviews valuable in the first place.

How do I know if AI assistants can read my website?

Check it with our free AI Radar tool. It shows whether your site blocks AI crawlers and whether it gives them the information they need.
